English Translation In 18 years, I put on seriously in the photograph and discover Henry Cartier-Bresson. Resolutely, I turn to the street photography on which I "feed" even today. I like the agitation of the city, direct contact to people and pictures grabbed in a split second. But, sometimes, I need of répi, a less compelling, more meditative photograph.I find this righteous man balance with the pinhole (pinhole: small hole) which I begin playing twelve years ago by making my first wooden box. Archaism and slowness of technique makes me change my look, abandoning the reality of instant for a more timeless, more poetic aesthetics also. I accomplish a first series on lakes being near (Annecy-Le Bourgey), then a job on " the beach " which allow me to show an imaginary vision of report: uninhabited beaches, but also been strewn with made languid bodies, a real challenge in time, all over necessity of a perfect immobility of several minutes to inscribe a picture. For one year, I follow a job on the lake Léman with the aim of a plan of exhibition in 2011: step differs there, based on the research of a new aesthetics by the use of a more supported granulation, not without reminding current pictorialiste. The same technology will be used for a future plan on " the city " - job in gestation which will allow me to approach a new use of the « Camera obscura ».
CK → What is it about viewing the world through a pinhole that makes it so magical and dreamy? A period of time blended together into one moment, and we catch ourselves wondering what happened in those moments. Were people talking and laughing, was the wind blowing or the water moving? Sometimes I think not knowing these answers is what makes these kinds of photos so interesting. Christian's photo's remind me of these "lost" moments in time where only the artist knows what happened during the time of exposure. Thanks Christian for sharing your thoughts and photos for this series. -Chris
