Four Pillars of Destiny Fortune Telling Palm Reading Japan

Color photograph of the entry way to a fortune tellers location that has a sign hand written in Japanese kanji that reads Four Pillars of Destiny and an illustration of a palm with lines on it

The reason why I probably created this photo is because I like handwritten or painted Japanese kanji and this fortune teller’s sign clearly has that. The sign reads “Four Pillars of Destiny 四柱推命 ~ Forunte Telling 占い ~ Palm reading . I didn’t pay much attention to this photo until I noticed the little boy holding someone’s hand in the far top right corner of the photo. It’s like he’s hiding there in plain sight.

This reminded me of this small red lantern charm that I bought in Tokyo that has a little golden frog hidden inside. I came to learn that a frog “hidden in plain sight” can represent the idea that good luck or opportunities might be present and easily overlooked unless one is observant and knows what to look for. A frog charm, often called “kaeru” (かえる), symbolizes good luck, prosperity, and safe travel.

In hindsight, I probably should have gone in and had my palm read, that might have made for a better story.
