Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple 化野念仏寺 Kyoto Japan

Wde angle photograph of the Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple in Kyoto Japan

Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple was founded by the venerable monk Kukai around the 8th century. It is believed that the approximately 8,000 stone images and pagodas here commemorate the souls of those who died without kin. A 13-story pagoda generally symbolizes the path to enlightenment in Buddhism. I love that it’s all framed by green Japanese maple trees.
