Drone (UAV) Photography

As an artist I’m always trying to see the world around me in a new way. Drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) allow me to put my camera and see my surrounding in a way I’ve never seen them before. Giving me the opportunity to create new exciting perspectives with my photography.

I enjoyed this new view of the world so much that I studied for and passed my Part 107 remote pilot’s license issued by the FAA. This enables me to use a drone commercially. By studying for the test and passing it has also given me the knowledge and respect for the safety issues that come with flying a drone. This is a responsibility I feel that all drone pilots should have. Just like any new technology there will be people out there that will want to push the limits and fly out of VLOS (Visual Line of Sight) or in areas where people are gathered below. Just because you’re OK with drones doesn’t mean the people you are flying above or around do.

Currently l fly the following drones: DJI Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Air 1, Mavic 2 Pro a Mini 2. Please note that that I work full time as the photographer for the Salk Institute and that is the only way I was able to captures that image of the institute. Every time I launch their drone, I am required to notify security of my flight path and time I will be flying. Please do not attempt to fly your drone over the institute because it is illegal.
