Geometry of Rhythm Depth Black and White Photography Japan

Black and white photograph of a road next to some buildings that have vertical and horizontal lines and windows. Cars are seen driving both direction of street. Tokyo Japan 2025

If you’ve ever spoken to me about my photography, you’ll hear me talk about depth. That’s probably one of the most important aspects of photography I try to include in my photos. I created two sequential images of this shot and I like the second photo more because it has… you guessed it… depth. Why do images with more dimensionality. OK, I understand that standard photographs are two dimensional. I get it. But when an image has more depth it gives it the illusion of having more perceived space, which in turn means the viewers eyes can look deeper into the image.
Motion is another aspect of photography that can be conveyed by something being blurred. For example, the car in the foreground is blurry in comparison to stationary objects in the background. Have a mix of objects that are sharp and in focus with elements that are blurred, I feel can add more interest to the image. Suggesting that something is passing through time and space.
