Experimental-color-photography-50mm-bokeh-blur

color photograph of grass with seed pods in the foreground and a blurred figured walking towards the camera in the background. Soft white clouds and blue sky in the distance

My first camera that I learned photograph on was a Canon AE-1 Program with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I remember saving up for this camera and when I had enough money to buy it and took it out of the box, I was giddy with excitement. I took that rig everywhere. Sadly, I didn’t fully understand the magic of using that lens wide open at f/1.8 until later. Film was relatively expensive then, so I focused primarily on getting the exposure right. It wasn’t until later in my career that I realized the beauty of fast prime lenses. Maybe I liked the bokeh it created and reminded me of the pinhole photographs I had created. I even got the nickname from another photographer friend as “the Buddha of Blur”. This photo is of my son walking towards me at a park in Ocean Beach, California. Created with a Canon 5D and a 50mm f/1.4 lens. I like how mysterious and dreamlike this image is.
