Sweet Kombu (Hedophyllum sessile) Seaweed Mendocino California

High contrast black and white ball of Sweet Kombu seaweed on the beach in Mendocino California

I not entirely sure what kind of seaweed this is but it looks like Kombu. I was exploring one of the beaches with my wife when I came across these clumps of seaweed on the beach. The leaves were long and amber colored. When sunlight reflected off of the wet surface and the way it was bunched up on the beach made an interesting asymmetrical design. When I converted the image to black and white the shadows and highlights were even more pronounced. I think why I like this image so much is that the kelp ball is surrounded with white space, so your eye can focus more on the shapes in the kelp.
