This photo goes back to when I was growing my professional portrait photography and needed some new photos for my website. My friend Kelly was kind enough to model for me on this shoot in Balboa Park, San Diego. It’s become somewhat of an iconic example of my portrait photography style. Soft colorful foreground blur with the subject smiling and the background full of light and texture. The Canon 85mm lens has become my go to lens for years now. Shooting it wide open can be challenging to get both eyes in focus but if you back up and shoot at a high shutter speed, you will get good results.
