Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Point and Shoot Camera

Now that we live in the age of smartphones that have cameras built in, why would anyone want to carry another camera? I mean after all the best camera is the one you have with you and you’re already carrying a phone that has a camera built into it. Well, the camera and lens built into your smartphone is good but not as good as the lens and sensor built into the RX100.

I understand it’s more stuff to carry and manage but when you want to get creative with your photography, this camera delivers. With its 24-70mm equivalent F1.8-2.8 Zeiss lens with an amazing F1.8–2.8 aperture, you can create some beautiful images.

When I travel I like to have an alternative to my mirrorless or DSLR camera that’s small and easy to carry. I also like that when I have it out, it doesn’t scream CAMERA like it’s bigger brothers. When it comes to street photography, this camera does the job. I tend to use it in shutter priority and set the shutter speed to over 1/200th of a second to stop the action. I also leave the ISO set on auto. The idea is to “get the shot” and let the camera do all the technical settings, so you can focus on composition.

Another great thing about this camera is its lens. At f/1.8 you can really get some nice background blur (bokeh) or take night photos handheld.

I also have an underwater housing for this camera and have used it underwater to get some excellent photos. The shot of the spinner dolphins in Lanai Hawaii are taken with this camera.

I’ve always thought that the best camera is the one you have with you. Sure smart phones are capable of getting some nice photos but if you really want to get creative and be control of the settings, you can’t beat a small point and shoot camera like the RX100.
