Wood Grain Art Aso Shrine Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto Abstract Japan

Black and white macro photograph of a detail of the wood grain of one of the buildings at Aso shrine in Japan

Black and white photograph of wood grain from the historic Aso Shrine, which is one of Japan’s oldest and most significant Shinto shrines, located in Aso City. It is dedicated to Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto, a deity associated with agriculture, and is deeply connected to the Aso volcanic region.
When I look closely at this image I can see the “energy” of the wood and imagine spirits flying through the air.
